Wait. What happened? Why is the market rebounding? The short answer is that nothing happened. The rebound off today's lows just happened -- as it has so often happened since December 24. The market sells off on a "clear" catalyst, but comes back some when that "clear" catalyst doesn't do the damage it was expected to do. Today, the clear catalysts are the warnings from Caterpillar (CAT 124.33, -12.53, -9.2%) and NVIDIA (NVDA 137.06, -23.09, -14.4%). Those are some major companies, and yet, the S&P 500, after gaining 13.3% from its Dec. 24 low, is down less than 1.0%? Pitted against a Treasury market that has yet to see any major flight to safety (the 10-yr is down just one basis point to 2.74%) and there is a basis to think today's selling in the stock market is some overdue profit taking versus any type of panicky selloff. That mentality could change if the warnings pile up this week and more companies call out China as a weak spot, but for now, it's one day at a time -- a (谈股论金)  402次阅读
